Welcome to my latest sculpture.
Its not a dragon actualy its a fish!!
Okay its a fish changing into a Dragon. It symbolizes success and perseverance, the fish tries to jump over the gate of heaven and if it makes it, it is turned into a Dragon

Acacia
The timber is Acacia it has a very nice grain, its hard and a little awkward to work with hand tools.
But if you take care it does hold detail.
I am using this timber because I had a block that was the right dimensions to practice on, as I intend to ebonize these sculptures I will be using a cheaper timber such as Beech or Lime etc

The fish /dragon is complete and I will be posting some pictures soon.

Ugly but cute
Where do you get your inspiration from !.
Well in this case my inspiration came from a bronze vase. I bought an antique bronze vase which had Dragon fish on it I liked them so much I thought it would be nice to carve them a little larger and in wood ( the original fish are about Two inch long )
